What to Expect From Sterling Silver

Sterling silver darkens slowly when it sits in the air. This is tarnish, not damage, and it is not a sign of fake silver. It comes off with a soft cloth or mild soap and water.

Plated chains behave differently. The coating wears through, and the base metal shows underneath. Sterling silver is the same metal all the way through, so it keeps its colour.
